Dickinson, ND (August 7th, 2025): Around 4:35 P.M. Tuesday evening, the Dickinson Police Department responded to a 911 call from a delivery driver who reported being shot in the eye by a BB gun while making a delivery at an address in the 900 blk of 3rd Avenue East.

The driver stated that as he was attempting to locate the purchaser of the groceries, 19-year-old CURRY LOMANOT MCCARTY JR said he could leave the groceries with him. The driver grew suspicious and refused.

An argument ensued, resulting in MCCARTY retrieving a BB-style handgun from inside the residence and pointing it at the driver. MCCARTY then, according to witnesses, allegedly discharged the BB handgun towards the delivery driver. The driver was struck under the left eye, and was transported by ambulance to CHI St. Alexius ER for treatment. MCCARTY fled the area on foot. Arriving officers established a perimeter and quickly located MCCARTY hiding in the backyard of a house a few blocks away.

MCCARTY was transported to the Public Safety Center for questioning, and ultimately to the Southwest Multi-County Correctional Center, where he was booked for the charges of Aggravated Assault with a Dangerous Weapon and Reckless Endangerment. He also had two active warrants for his arrest out of Stark and Morton counties.

Detectives initiated a search warrant on the residence and retrieved the BB handgun and other evidence.

A 16-year-old juvenile female, who was also at the residence, was cited into Juvenile Court for Hindering Law Enforcement and Simple Assault on a Peace Officer for her actions during a police interview at the Public Safety Center. She was released to the custody of an adult family member.

The victim was treated and released from the hospital. MCCARTY remains in custody awaiting a bond hearing.
