A four-hour standoff between an armed barricaded subject and Dickinson Police ended safely with the arrest of a 29-Year-Old Dickinson man on a multitude of charges.

Around 12:40 P.M., dispatch received a 911 call of a robbery that had just occurred at a sporting goods store in downtown Dickinson. The male, later identified as DANIEL AARON VALENZUELA, allegedly stole a firearm from the store and fled the area on foot. VALENZUELA was located shortly after at a residence in the 300 block of 1st Avenue East. He barricaded himself inside the residence and threatened law enforcement with harm if they attempted to enter. The Southwest Tactical Team and Southwest Crisis Negotiations Team were summoned to the scene and began negotiations. Schools in the immediate vicinity were placed on a soft lockdown as a precaution and a Reverse 911 call was made to area residents advising them to shelter in place.

While attempting to negotiate with VALENZUELA, he discharged multiple rounds from a firearm while inside the residence. No one was injured.

Shortly after 4:00 P.M., tear gas was introduced into the residence after negotiations deteriorated with VALENZUELA. He ultimately surrendered without incident at 4:11 P.M.

VALENZUELA was transported to the Southwest Multi-County Correctional Center and is facing several charges, including Robbery, Reckless Endangerment, and Felon in Possession of a Firearm. Further charges may be added or adjusted pending the finalization of the investigation.
