Wastewater Collection System
Overview
Utilities department employs 10 operators that run the Water Distribution, Stormwater collection, and Wastewater collection system. The wastewater collection system collects wastewater from a population of 25,167 people. The city infrastructure consists of 156.5 miles of sewer and 22 lift stations.
Water Reclamation Facility
Overview
The Water Reclamation Facility (WRF) started operation in 2014, and employs four operators. The WRF is a class IV mechanical treatment facility which treats on average 2.5 million gallons of wastewater daily. The wastewater comes from the wastewater collection system. The wastewater is pumped directly to the plant from the influent pump station. The influent pump station is equipped with a rake screen that removes large rags and debris from the wastewater which then is sent to the WRF for treatment. Its treatment process includes:
- Screening
- Vortex Grit removal
- Integrated Fixed Film Activated Sludge (IFAS) Reactors
- Final Clarifier
- Ultraviolet Disinfection
- Biosolids Treatment
- Membrane Thickening
- Land applied sludge
After the treatment process the reuse water is utilized for industrial, agricultural, irrigation and in-plant use. The remaining water is discharged into the Heart River.
