Who Are We

The Dickinson Fire Department is a combination department, with full time and part-time members. Combined with our state certified firefighters, the Dickinson Fire Department is proud to have one (1) department chaplain, and six (6) reserve members. Our part-time members serve in the roles of firefighters and officers including: Lieutenant, Captain, and Assistant Chief positions. Full time positions include the Fire Chief, Deputy Chief, Captain, Senior Fire Inspector, Training Officer, Fire Inspector, Lieutenants, Senior Firefighter, and Firefighters.

What Do We Do

The demands of fire departments have grown. Your firefighters now respond to more than just fires but other emergency situations involving hazardous materials, emergency medical response, auto extrication, confined space and trench rescue, high angle rope rescue, among other tasks. In addition to these emergency services, the department is involved in fire prevention activities and is one of eight departments in the state of North Dakota tasked with regional response.

In May of 2017, the Insurance Service Office (ISO) conducted a fire protection rating survey for the City of Dickinson. Since then the Dickinson Fire Department has acquired an additional aerial apparatus, a second station, and additional fulltime staff.

The ISO survey rates communities on their fire department staffing, facilities and equipment, the city’s water supply system and emergency communication system and then assigns a rating on a scale of one to ten, a Class 1 rating being the best a community can acquire.

The City of Dickinson has improved from a Class 4 to Class 3 Public Protection Classification Rating based on the updates in the community’s infrastructure, the expansion of the department, the annual hydrant testing, defined training curriculum, and fire prevention program.
